Arlene is our current family milk cow. She produces over 32 pounds of milk, a bit more than 4 gallons, of milk per day. She has wonderful thick, rich cream for making homemade butter. I am not proficient at making cheese yet, but have successfully made mozzarella cheese from her milk. Arlene is A1/A2.
Pictured here with her accidental beef heifer calf, compliments of a neighbors roaming bull. This calf's weaning weight at 5 1/2 months was 595 pounds, with no creep feed, and brought top dollar at our local livestock auction. The American Milking Devon cows raise wonderful, marketable calves when bred to a good beef bull. Cows average 900-1100 pounds, so some care should be taken to make sure the bull is somewhat of a low birthweight bull. Grace is A1/A2.
Pictured here with her spring 2022 heifer calf Niylah, by Fred. Kelly is a smaller frame cow exhibiting more of the dairy type body confirmation. Her udder has nice confirmation and desirable teat size. Kelly has raised fantastic beef steers by our herd sire Jack. She also is an example of the lighter coat color sometimes seen in this breed. Some folks say that the lighter color traces back to some of the better milking bloodlines. Kelly is A1/A1.
This cow is the dam to three of our best cows, Grace, Estell, & Bubblegum. She is a very consistent producer. We have several frozen embryos from this cow by both Fred and Jack. Some of which are sexed for heifers. Carrie Mae is A1/A2.
Grandma is the dam of Arlene, our milk cow. This photo was taken February 2023, at 16 years old. We really like this cows depth of body in the chest and flank. She has a very calm disposition and her heifers have been very easy to train and work with. Grandma is A1/A1.
This cow is the dam to my off ox, and riding steer, Frank. She is a recent addition to our ranch. Larkspur is A1/A2.
This cow is by far our biggest and tallest cow. She has long legs and I can't wait to someday have a pair of bull calves from her to train for oxen. She has had two fantastic Brangus crossbred heifers which we have kept for embryo recipient cows. Daisy Mae is A1/A2.
This cow is a full sister to Grace and Estell. Her dam is Carrie Mae. Her sire is Jack. She is pictured here with her 2022 heifer calf, Cloret, by Fred. Bubblegum has a very sweet disposition and is A2/A2.
This cow has raised fantastic crossbred calves by our Brangus bull. One of her purebred steer calves is in the photo on our home page. Looney Bug is A1/A2.
Trained for hand or machine milking, Evelina is super gentle. She is exceptionally fertile and actually had two calves in a 12 month period. A bull calf born on December 1st one year and a heifer born October 15 of the following year. Amazing! She is A2/A2.
